On September 26, 2025, we has 34 items entered as cash transactions via an item that was not on our POS. Additionally, these happened in rapid succession: 14 at 16:44:38 and 10 at 16:37:37. In checking our security footage, our employees were not at the POS system. Square refuses to take ownership of the glitch and said the only way to correct this was to create refunds for the transactions. I don't know how to get the information to the right team to communicate there is an issue.
@wrh First, wow. In my years here in the Community, I think your issue is a first. It might be premature for anyone to be "taking ownership" of this, right now. After all, it could be as simple as someone has compromised your Square account credentials and is targeting you to see if you notice, which you obviously have. Honestly, this sounds more to me like an attack of some type, rather than a glitch with Square. That being said, here are a few steps you should take now.
I'm very curious about what comes of the investigation I recommend in #1. If that comes to nothing, I can tag the moderators here to have them follow-up next week when they are back.
Thank you, Chip.
1. Nothing unusual
2. We do have it set up.
3. We did.
4. They all have credentials to clock in and out, but not to access mobile app.
@wrh wow. Ok. I'm tagging the moderators here. I've run out of ideas. Thankfully, they were cash transactions, but still...
@Kassi_@RSosebee1@_Violet@MayaP@Summer2024@Summer2024@Ellie_@Katie_SQ@Laurie_@Sammie_Cplease review this thread. Can you or the team offer any insights or assistance in researching the cause/source of this?
That is pretty crazy. were they all at those times listed or a few seconds apart starting at the times you posted?
So the collected by and order source etc all are normal options you see on other transactions? Do your employees have to sign in to use the POS each timer?
I have never seen anything like that in my 100s of thousands of transactions.
