Unless you're having the same issue with all customers I doubt it would be the card reader. One way to test this would be to try a $1 transaction with your own card.
While I don't have a lot of insight into this, if you can send me a PM with your account email I'll take a further look.

I tried my card, but it is a visa debit, not a credit card, and it allowed me to select the account. We are just opening so not many customers yet and everyone else has tapped. It is strange as he is a friend and had used it multiple times that day with the expected results. I called him back over just now and he did a test and his card went straight through again, no choice of account. He advised he has used it multiple times today and was always given the choice so it is a little odd.
I'll live with it this weekend and see if his card is just some strange anomaly. Thanks.
