Migration due to policy change

In light of the new policy that you will be keeping the fees on refunded transactions, I was wondering if there was anything I needed to do to migrate away from your platform. I found many others complaining about the same problem and Square's answer seemed to be "others do it so we will too" so we are now setting up another payment processor.

Hi @Conundrum - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community.

You can deactivate your Square Account right from your online Square Dashboard. Before you do, reference our checklist for deactivating a Square account.

To deactivate your account, please follow the directions below:

  1. From your online Square Dashboard, go to Account & Settings.
  2. From the Business information > About my business, select Deactivate business.
  3. Select your reason for deactivation and click Continue.
  4. Enter the verification code.
    * If you have 2-Step Verification on your account, your verification code will either be texted to you or you can use your authenticator app.
    * If you do not have 2-Step Verification on your account, your verification code will be emailed to the email address associated with your Square Account.
  5. Confirm deactivation by selecting Deactivate.

Once you’ve closed your account, you won’t be able to reactivate it or have access to your payment history. For your records, you may want to download your payment history before deactivating your account.

Note: If your Square account uses Square Online, please cancel all of the subscriptions and services in your Square Online account from the Square Online Overview page first before deactivating your Square account. This will ensure you’re not continually charged for Square Online services you’re no longer using.

If you need additional assistance with this, please let us know.
