Just to confirm: you can only get the nonce from the JS Form

I just want to confirm you can only get the card Nonce from the JS Form API. If this is the case I have no clue on earth why any merchant would ever go with Square and be forced to use your form when there a thousand other online merchant providers that don't need such an insane limitation.

I'm back, @near! That's correct - publicly, you can only generate a nonce via Square’s payment form. You should be able to follow the instructions we've provided here to generate a secure single use token. Definitely let us know if you find that the directions aren't getting you where you need to be.
