Why is my magstripe reader disconnecting?

Hello, I just ordered the headphone Magstripe reader for my phone. I tried plugging it in my phone but it doesn't fit, I put pressure on the reader and it links to my account but as soon as I lift my finger it disconnects. My phone jack is 3.5 and the reader says its size is 3.5, my phone is brand new so I don't think that's the problem. My phone is the LG Stylo 5. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thank you.

This sounds frustrating, but it definitely sounds like you have the right equipment. Do you by chance have a case on your phone?

Thank you for your response, no I do not have a case on my phone. I've also checked the head phone jack and there wasn't any lint in it.

Do you have any other headphones or devices you plug into the headphone jack?

Omg, I guess I didn't push hard enough on the magstripe. It felt like it wouldn't go in so I tested some head phones that are the same length and it worked so I pushed harder on the magstripe and it worked. Thank you so much for your help, and sorry for wasting your time.
