Why is merchant charge 9% from squareup?

I had an invoice for $5 with a 47 cents merchant charge. That calculates to 9%. Why?

My past merchant charges were at 3.5%? Any explanation?

As per the latest fee details described here - the charges are correct.  "Invoices" are charged 3.3% plus $.30 which does work out to $.47.  As for the % - $.47 is what percentage of $5.00 - the math works out to 9.4%.   In reference to your past merchant charges, can't say as there's not enough info as to the type of transaction and the amount.  

Math examples:

(5.00 x 3.3% = 0.165 Plus .30 = 0.465 or rounded up is .47)  

(.47 / 5.00 = 0.094  x  100 = 9.4%)
