I am running Square for Retail POS directly on Square Terminal, but the Terminal keeps crashing. At the checkout screen, we can get as far as clicking on an item and then the screen goes black with the square icon. The only thing we can do then is to restart the system, but then the problem just happens again and again.
There are no software updates to install, and the Terminal was charged. Has anybody experienced this?

I haven't heard of any similar reports. Can you try factory resetting the Terminal and then me let know if the issue persists?
Go to More > Settings > Hardware > General > About Terminal > scroll down to Factory Reset > Confirm Factory reset > Reset.
Make sure that you know your Square login and password and that you have your Wi-Fi credentials nearby.

We changed over from the retail app to the restaurant App last night and when trying to get our terminal linked to the restaurant app if freezes on the black screen with the square logo and will not do anything else.
We have tried factory reset 3 times and device codes, but it will not get past the black screen. Sounds similar to the above. PLease help, as we need this for weekend service..

You mentioned you are using device codes. Have you tried deleting the current device code and recreating it?
Additionally, is your Terminal connected to another device, such as the Virtual Terminal or the Square Register?
