Hi guys,
I think I’ve messed up…. I’ve just bought a Square terminal and usb cash drawer. No printer because I don’t need one. I think I must have misunderstood the descriptions in the store…. the cash drawer (plugged into the hub) isn’t recognised by the Terminal. Ideally I’d like a cash drawer that opens automatically when a cash sale (not every sale) is rung in. Does such a cash drawer exist? Do Square sell one?
Many thanks for any advice you can offer.
Hey @MarshfieldCC - usb cash draws are a funny beast! I think there is actually a very limited number available/compatible —> list is here.
The set up I’d go for (being cost focused) would be to buy a cheap star tsp printer on eBay (the network ones are cheapest but need to be plugged into the router, or a usb one would work too & are 2nd cheapest). Then get a standard cash draw to plug into that.
I know it sounds strange to recommend buying a printer you don’t need just for a cash draw but this is the cheapest (should get both bits for £100 or less on eBay) & most reliable. If you can plug into the router with a network cable & get that to the printer then that also allows you to use the terminal wirelessly which is nice.
Thanks 400*
I’ve decided in the end to swap my usb cash drawer for the two-in-one mpop printer/cash drawer. It seems as if it provides a complete solution and I guess you can have the printer not actually printing if you wish?
Does anyone know if you can have the mpop physically separated from the Square register (to keep the counter clear) if they are both connected to the same network via the router?
Still a bit confused by cash drawers! 😣
Hi @MarshfieldCC, mPop Receipt printer and Cash Drawer can connect to Square Register by USB cable only so it cannot be separated too far away.
Thanks Emma. I guess I could always use a usb extension cable to position the mpop in a convenient position further away from the register.
@MarshfieldCC, yes that would work as long as it is connected through the USB cable.
