Removal of the receipt printing screen iPad/Terminal

Hi! I'm using Square on the iPad, with a Terminal being used by customers for checkout - for wireless tapping/pin input.

 

After a customer has paid, the terminal displays a screen asking if the customer would like to print a receipt, and on the iPad it asks us if we would like to print a receipt, or push a button to initiate a new sale. I want to remove the screen.

 

Here's the catch though - I can confirm that in the settings, skip customer receipt is activated, so this should not be displaying. Has anyone found a work around for this issue, or had it themselves?

Here is the screen on the iPad which we cannot remove. We are a coffee shop and this is disruptive to workflow as the kitchen ticket won't print unless that screen is cancelled off by clicking 'new sale'. Whilst this screen is active, the Terminal is also displaying a receipt wanted screen to the customer. Also attached are the simultaneous terminal display and the settings for receipt printing on both the terminal and on the ipad.

Just a follow-up question @44poets - do you have the skip receipt screen enabled on both the app and the Terminal? 

 

I just tested the following: 

 

On the iPad Point of Sale - skip receipt screen was disabled 

On the Terminal - skip receipt screen was enabled 

Processed a transaction and had the same outcome as you with 'Customer choosing receipt' screen. 

 

I then enabled the Skip receipt screen on the app and did another transaction and the 'Customer choosing receipt' message disappeared. 

It's unlikely but I would just like to check you have skip receipt enabled in both places.

 

It seems to be working as intended for me so this will help rule out if this issue is happening specifically to you - that way we can file a ticket - thanks!

They are indeed both turned off for receipt printing.

 

Is there a setting within the terminal to make sure its off, I can't see one - only within the app under receipt, and in the app under hardware, terminal, print receipts.

I have also logged out of the terminal, forgotten the device, then repaired it from scratch to no avail.

If it means anything, my account manager Luke is aware of this issue, and has recreated this problem himself and is aware of it, but has directed me towards support, rather than himself for assistance, so its an issue he knows of but hasn't been able to find a fix on his end.

Yes - I have checked in with Luke on this and he's continuing to investigate on his end too. 

 

So on both the Square Terminal and the App, under More > Settings > Checkout > Receipt > Skip Receipt screen - should be toggled on. 

 

Apologies for not adding that to my message! It is strange that I replicated it and now it has stopped - it seems to be inconsistent. @44poets

I have logged out of the terminal checkout mode and gone back into it under 'normal' mode and can confirm both the app and the terminal are both set to skip receipt screen.

Thank you for your response.

As the option to skip the receipt screen doesn't work in Terminal this is hardly a "feature request" but a bug which has been known about for at least 18 months. Surely Square could expedite a resolution of this aggravation.

We will use Terminal in a theatre for selling programmes and ice creams where the speed of transactions is important and ideally we want to be able to skip the review sale and receipt screens.

Hi @davidmartin @B-Club, taking over JJ_ here.

 

Could you confirm whether you updated the settings on the Terminal as well?

 

You will have to unpair the Terminal from your SPOS first. Then on both the Square Terminal and the App, go to More > Settings > Checkout > Receipt > Skip Receipt screen - should be toggled on. 

 

If you'd also like to skip the Review Sale screen, navigate to Checkout > Payment Types > Skip Review Sale

I do not understand your advice above. 

We have a number of IPads running Square POS coupled with your Readers.  The Terminal is a new addition to our system.  When setting up the terminal I just logged on and the same item list etc appeared which was ideal. The menu on the Terminal shows the option to skip the receipt screen which doesn't work. All the IPads are set to skip this screen which works fine.

Please explain in more detail what I need to do.  I do not understand how the App is separate from the Terminal.

I might have misunderstood your issue and your setup @davidmartin - my apologies. 

 

The original post of this thread was about skipping the receipt screen when using the Terminal paired with the POS app on a phone or tablet, and the steps I provided above are specific to this set up. 

 

From your description, it sounds that you're using the Terminal as a standalone to take payment - and not connected to the POS app. 

 

I'll inquire about this particular issue, and I'll get back to you soon with an update.

Following up about the issue with the receipt screen  @davidmartin and @B-Club.

 

I was able to replicate the issue on my own Terminal as well. It's definitely not the expected behavior and I've escalated this to our engineering team. I'll let you know when I have an update, and when a solution has been implemented.

Hi @Lou8 , I am a paired terminal to POS, and the instructions provided do not work, it still asks for receipt even though all is off. If you have a square reader paired as well, that skips the receipt, so it’s the terminal causing this issue.
