My square is making a strange high-pitched sound while I am charging it. Has the battery gone bad?

my Square is making a high-pitched noise when I charge it. It looks like charging. It is actually draining the battery. Is the battery bad? Does anyone have any idea what is happening?

Hi JenFurlong,

It's possibly something called coil “whine”.  The charger handles alternating current from the wall, and and may be a switch mode power supply, both of which mean the charger is handling electrical current that has a frequency.  Normally, a charger or power supply, or AC adapter ( mostly interchangeable names) should not be audible.  If your device is still under warranty, consider getting it replaced.  The product may not be working as designed, and a defect in a power supply could indicate a possible point of failure at some point.   Please understand, I'm not a Tech nor do I work for Square so my thoughts here are just that - my thoughts.

Your best option is to contact Square's Tech Support for advice.
