I just received a PayPal notification that I made an automatic payment to Block as a percentage of a total bill equaling $755.85! What IS this? I've been paying my annual, and now this.
Hey there @v-holmes.. Don't panic just yet. I've been inundated with spam emails from "PayPal" lately. A few of them were quite convincing, but when I looked at the email header I noticed that while the "from" email address definitely looked like a legitimate PayPal address (@paypal.com), the "reply-to" email address was nothing close to a legitimate email address. Check that, first. You can even post a screen shot of the email header if you want us to look at it.
Secondly, have you checked your subscription invoices in your web dashboard, (Account & Settings > Pricing & Subscriptions)? If you don't see anything there, check your PayPal account's transaction history. If there is nothing in either, then this is just a phishing scam and you can report it to PayPal. I never rely on email notices like this, for this very reason.
Let me know if it all looks legit and I'll tag the moderators to have a look.
Totally investigated before I wrote this. Cancelled the payment on PayPal. I always check for phishing.
I'm sorry to be obvious here but not everyone does check this, trust me. So it must be the first thing we mention here. Anyway, did you check your Square web dashboard for a corresponding invoice? If there is one, then definitely the moderators need to take a look, though it might be much faster to call the support line first thing tomorrow. If there isn't one, at least you know that Square didn't mess up.
No one here in this forum can see in your account to see what this transaction was for. The other issue I see, usually if Block withdrawals money for a Payment it is from a Linked Bank (checking or Savings) where your Square Payments are deposited not through PayPal. This would be the same for upgrades or loans through Square. I would suggest looking at your Paypal Account and see if there was a withdrawal. This could be a phishing type email or a Spam email for you to click on a Link and login to your PayPal account to steal from you. You may have to wait till Monday to call Square support, their phone number is below in my signature line. Hackers and Spam artist like hitting accounts with these kind of emails on a weekend when Banks are closed. Do NOT click on any links in the message that says You spent Money to Block From Paypal. Use a different device if possible to log in to your accounts.
Come to think of it Look in your Square Account Balance Section. Usually Square has Listed what they pull from your account and what is deposited. Square is not even able to send deposits on Weekends or Bank Holidays which is why the is suspicious to me that it came from Block on a Sunday.
I did all of the priority account checking. I'm getting the feeling that Block doesn't know how to record and note accumulated fees, etc.
FWI: I admin the website and finances for a non-profit, so I'm always double checking.
