Gift card via Virtual Terminal

Hi Guys,

We use the virtual terminal and attempted to run a $20 gift card through this today for a $40.34 transaction. It was meant to be a split payment so when running the gift card through it deducted from the gift card, and I had to use a manual entry for a credit card (really wish there was a swipe function for a split charge on virtual terminal by the way). However, the credit card manual entry didn't process (when attempting to press "charge" nothing happened).

So, the transaction had to be cancelled, but the gift card balance was still deducted. About third minutes later the gift card balance restores, but this prevents the transaction from actually occurring unless we manually write down the customer's information and charge it later.

Can anyone provide insight besides logging out of virtual terminal and using the Square device to process the transaction?

Thanks,

Hello @tlptlptlp

You can absolutely swipe a card while using Virtual Terminal.

Make sure you have the following before you begin:
-A Mac or Chromebook with a headphone jack
-A Square Reader for magstripe (with headphone jack)
-A credit or debit card

Let me know if this would work for you.

Thank you

Hi Frances,

This problem is specifically tied to gift cards in the virtual terminal. Just want to make sure we are on the same page

Hi @tlptlptlp

I do not believe that the gift card balance will restore automatically, unfortunately. There will be a short window from the time the order is "cancelled" to when the funds return to the gift card.

We can definitely try to double check with the team when they return after the weekend for you.
