DoorDash scam going around

To All: I received a call from someone claiming to be with DD and said "we have updated our system and want to send you a new tablet/iPad from DD." I don't use a DD tablet, we receive our orders through email on our POS system. After refusing to get my email address he hung up.

I talked to DD and yes this is a scam. This is just one of many.

It is so sad how there are more scams out there than legit operations it seems at many times.  Between fake google, fake DoorDash, fake electric company providers, fake Comcast, fake uber eats, fake at&t, fake Square managers, fake Square bounced deposits or other scams, fake basically anything calling or emailing to try and get you to send money or switch accounts etc it is rough.  Trying to keep employees to understand that a company is not going to call you and ask for your password etc and that it is immediately a scam.

It just sucks that the reason they do these scams is because they work 1 out of 500 times or whatever and it is easy to automate and profit huge on scamming people.  My grandma got hit for over 10k and it was so obvious to everyone, but in the heat of the moment it sounds so real that you put aside logic and fall for it.

Everyone says it won't happen to them, and many times people won't even say when they do get scammed out of embarrassment which lets more people get scammed.

we had an employee get scammed at our bakery as the guy walked in and was "from the town" and was inspecting fire alarms. well dressed with his high vis vest and clipboard and said they passed and needed to be paid the $250 yearly fee and then proceeded to fake call me to have fake me tell her to just give it in cash so she didn't need to have me come in to make a check.  They social engineered my name from her without her even knowing she said it etc.  clearly someone who does this probably dozen times a day.  Hindsight it was obvious but in the moment she didn't see anything was going sideways.

Scammer Payback has a good YouTube Channel breaking down how it works and shows the insides of the companies and he actually reverse hacks into them.

I know it's a shame we can't trust anyone. And for those reading it CAN happen to you. I've been lucky of the last 40 years, but I have and know many stories of scammers. Please just be careful, educate your employees and question EVERYTHING!
