Can't enter correct VAT Number

HI there,

 

I am trying to enter my VAT number but it wont let me - says it's invalid. It isn't. I have looked at any extra spaces, cleared the cache but still not working.

 

Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear you're running into this.

 

If you have entered a VAT number when you registered with Square, or added it later via your Location Settings, we may periodically check to ensure your VAT number is valid.

If you have received a notification that your VAT number is invalid, you can update your information in the Location Settings.

  1. Go to Account & Settings in your online Square Dashboard.
  2. Click Business > Locations, then select the relevant location for your business.
  3. On the Location Details page, scroll to the Business ID Numbers section, then add or change the VAT number for that location.
  4. Click Save to validate your VAT number and apply your changes.

VAT numbers are validated per location and are verified against known government records. If you have multiple locations, you must make the change across all applicable locations.

 

You can also check it using this tool to make sure it's valid: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-vat-number.

Hi, it's still not working. My VAT number is 250973789‍ and it's valid.

 

Also, I don't really understand Locations - I just need a card reader for trade shows, location isn't important -  due to VAT number issues, I may have changed the name more than 3 times as I don't get what I'm doing on this page.  

 

Can I just input my business address as location?   Does it matter? Isn't this mainly for retail businesses with multiple outlets?

Hey @natalie37, thank you for trying those steps. Just stepping in for Breffni here. 

 

In this case, I'd recommend getting in touch with our support team. They will have the ability to look at your account to specifically see why your VAT number is not being accepted by our system. Our number is 0800 098 8008. We’re available by phone from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
