CARD_DECLINED_VERIFICATION_REQUIRED

I'm getting this error a lot, does anyone know what it could be?

Hi @Illuminatelpl - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community with your question.

It sounds like these transactions need additional verification by the customer to their card issuer or bank. I suggest having these customers contact their bank to clear the payment.

Hi Violet,

 

Thanks for the reply, this seems to be happening way too often, I'd say 3/5 clients are unable to pay due to this error. They say they're not being asked for additional verification. 

 

Is there anything else that could be causing this?

Just taking over for Violet, @Illuminatelpl

 

Is this happening when customers are checking out from your Square Online store? Do you have a screenshot of the message? 

Usually, these are 3DS verifications by the card issuer as Violet mentioned and the customer should be getting a notification in their banking app, etc.

Hi, this is when customers are making payments through my CRM using the API, I've spoken to the CRM Devs who can't see anything wrong and I've checked on their support forums and there are other members using Square without any issues.  Unfortunately I don't have any screen shots as it works perfectly for me.

It sounds like SCA may not have properly implemented @Illuminatelpl, you can learn more about SCA here

 

When we see this type of error, it's usually related. "Sellers, Developers and Partners that use Square’s developer products such as Square Payment Form and the Connect V2 APIs must ensure their applications are SCA-compliant to minimise the occurrence of declined payments. To achieve compliance, Sellers, Developers and Partners need to update Square Payment Form Integration following this guide."
