Bluetooth Spamming

Why is this app spamming me constantly about turning on Bluetooth?

A) If I wanted to use a Bluetooth device, of course I know to go to my Bluetooth settings to turn it on and even to connect.

B) Why is Square running in the background even though I didn’t give it permission to? I have an iPhone 8plus and I tried to turn off everything for Square, like data, notifications, etc.

All that did was prevent me from using the app but I still received messages to connect to Bluetooth.

C) This is happening so frequently during the day. Every time I open the app. Please make it stop.

Hey @Steiny - Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the app. Seems super annoying and would probably drive me crazy too!

One thing to note: to use Square on your iPhone, you'll need to enable push notifications, location services and the microphone in order for the Square app to function properly. Without these permissions turned on, your reader won't communicate with the app. You can set Location Services to only run while using the app straight from your iPhone privacy settings.

As far the perpetual Bluetooth message, I would try some app troubleshooting first found here. I hope this helps!

You want me to Force Quit the app to make the message that tells me to turn on my phones Bluetooth to stop?

Correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t closing the app what’s making the message pop up so often?

Hi @Steiny, Valentina jumping in for Justin here! From what you've shared so far, it sounds like a little app and phone troubleshooting could potentially halt the Bluetooth notifications.

Closing the Square App should not cause the app to notify you about your Bluetooth settings. The notifications could be related to how your phone is communicating with the app about Bluetooth settings, which is why a force quit or uninstall/reinstall may help straighten things out.

Please see images. Here is it happening after force close and after uninstall/reinstall.

It cleared out all of our settings and our kitchen printer station and receipt printer stations.

This is our SquareStand with iPad.

This is happening on 4 different devices.

I don’t use the iPhone except to check on our sales and tickets when I’m at home in the late evening. These iPads with SquareStand are always being used during our business hours.

What’s next please?

You say at least one of your devices is the Square Stand with iPad.  Was that iPad updated to iOs 13.1, because there is a known defect with that update and the Stand.  See this thread for more info and a procedure to follow if the update was applied.

I am not having trouble with connectivity. I do not appreciate the sentiment that I have to use/keep my businesses devices in an insecure, vulnerable manner.

I do not use Bluetooth on them and I am not going to dismiss important updates for my devices, especially when they’re over a month old.

I'm not sure I'd be comfortable directly ignoring instructions that have been given to keep from having my equipment malfunction.  However, you have to run your business in the manner that you think gives the best results.

I agree, which is why I’m not ignoring Apple’s encouragement to keep my devices up to date.

Turns our prior to iOS 13, Square app just used my Bluetooth without notifying or asking me. iOS 13 put an end to that by making changes that now require apps to first get permission to use Bluetooth, hence why Square is recommending we don’t update our to iOS 13.

Now I know what’s causing my issue but I need to the app developers to stop requesting access to Bluetooth because it’s not happening.

Does anyone know how to permanently disable the annoying Bluetooth accessories message when opening square?  I have IOS 13.4 with Iphone 11 Pro Max and I've tried numerous things to get rid of the turn on Bluetooth to use accessories.

Hey @mikemorin. Looks like other sellers who ran into the same message posted in this thread. Might be worth running through app troubleshooting (article linked above).
