importing PTO requests to payroll

My employee is making requests for PTO through the app, but I can't figure out how to import automatically to payroll.  How can I do that?

Hey @slawlyes – I appreciate your patience! I didn’t catch your reply earlier, but I did escalate this to Payroll, and they provided some additional insight.

Right now, team members can request time off through the app, and managers can approve it digitally, creating a clear record without manual tracking. However, approved time off still needs to be manually entered into Payroll each pay period. We do plan to fully automate this process so that approved time off syncs with pay runs—just like timecards—but there’s no set timeline for that update yet.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I pay my staff vacation pay automatically (4% here) each pay, it is their resonsiblity to budget for PTO. I am following to see if there is a good system in place for this for future opportunities to streamline operations

Hello @slawlyes, thank you for reaching out with your question. I reviewed our article, Set up paid time off and sick leave policies with Square Payroll, and it doesn’t appear that there’s a way to import this directly into Payroll. However, you can set up your PTO policy directly through Payroll. Does that address your concern?

I already set up the PTO, and it appears to calculate the number of hours accumulated, which appear on the paystub.  But what's the point of all of that if the numbers of hours that are approved through the app aren't automatically pulled into the payroll?

Following!  It's nice that staff can request time off and put PTO in the description, but that doesn't translate to automatic payroll options. You cannot input PTO and run it automatically. It still requires keeping track of requested PTO days and inputting them in weekly.... which defeats the purpose of automatic payroll.
