We cannot accept unequal payment methods for one transaction (i.e. gift certificate + credit card)

At our last convention, our POS system would not allow us to enter any uneven split payments. This is a serious problem, as there were a number of gift certificates that needed to be redeemed, and the Square system would NOT allow any form of partial payment other than an even split. Our records for the weekend are a mess because of this inaccuracy. I just spoke to one of your service reps and she informed me that it is quite impossible to enter more than 2 methods of pay on one transaction. Therefore, we cannot take a combination of gift certificate, cash and credit. We also cannot take a combination of multiple gift certificates plus cash or credit. This is a problem. In the past we were able to do an uneven split transaction, but for some reason the system NO LONGER ALLOWS it. Did Square take this option away? Is our system malfunctioning? We need to have this functional before the next event.

Hello @tonyaweakley !

I'm so sorry that you were misdirected by the service rep! Multiple uneven payments are most definitely supported by the point of sale!

I've run a split payment on my system, starting with the order:

The first thing I recommend is running any Square Gift Cards (physical or e-gift) first. Chances are you don't know the balance on the card, and the system will tell you. For this example I used a card with $10 on it:

Once you hit Charge and Continue you'll get to a receipt screen.

Tapping the Next Payment link in the upper left will get you to a tender screen again. If you're not starting with Gift Cards this is where you'll start the splits:

Tap the Edit Split link in the upper right to get to this screen:

This screen will let you split evenly using the Equal Payments section, or you can tap on the Payment Amount line to enter whatever the dollar amount is:

For this example, I chose my second payment to be $10 cash, which brought me back to the receipt screen:

This works with almost every tender type, including the Gift Certificates or Other tenders:

Keep hitting the Edit Split and Payment Amount screens until the ticket is paid out!

Hope this helps clear things up!
