W-2 Amendment

Hi, I am having a really difficult time getting an answer from Square regarding this. I need to amend my sole employee's W-2 for 2023 as I forgot to add their 401k benefit contributions (this goes in box 12, letter D of the W-2). This is a normal request, I have had to do this with my previous payroll company and they re-issued the W-2 in a matter of days. Square has told me I need to wait six weeks for a response as to whether they can amend the W-2 or not. Waiting six weeks is unacceptable. Please help!

@jthompson2013 I can see how this is one of those things that seems simple and you want to get it taken care of quickly.  I can't give you tax advice and you can't get it on the forums, but I do know the square amendments is a service and they charge a custom amount based on what is wrong and needs to be amended.

You always have the option to do it yourself for your business using the existing info you have.  Here is the link to the IRS information for a w-2c:

Your employee can file a corrected return if need be or wait for the w-2c to be filed by yourself or an accountant of your choosing.  That would be my recommendation if you need it done quickly.

Thanks for your advice. Do you know if I can submit the W-2C online?

There are online services to do it for you online and I think it might cost 3-5$ depending on who you look at.  I would just search online file w-2c online for my employee and a bunch come up.
