Hi all — wondering if anyone else has experienced this:
I used to receive payroll reminder emails and confirmation emails consistently for years from Square Payroll. The last one I received was on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 5:05 AM. That email stated:
“Payroll is due by 8pm MST tonight for your employees to be paid on Friday, May 9, 2025.”
👉 But here’s the issue:
There’s no such thing as Thursday, May 8 followed by Friday, May 9 in 2025. That’s a date discrepancy.
Since that email, I have received no further payroll notifications by email, including confirmations after running payroll. I contacted Square Support and was told:
They “never send payroll emails” (despite me having years of them in my inbox)
The setting is “only on the backend” and not user-controlled
Everything is “working as expected,” which clearly isn’t true
To make matters worse, the new Square Dashboard design has removed the Account & Settings > Notifications tab where this would logically live. I’ve looked everywhere for a way to manage email preferences and can’t find any documentation that reflects the current layout.
Has anyone else noticed:
A sudden stop in payroll-related emails?
Support denying Square ever sent them?
Changes to dashboard settings without communication?
Would appreciate any insight. This is something I rely on as a business owner to make sure payroll is submitted and confirmed. Losing those emails (without warning) creates serious risk.

Hi @DavidO_ – Thanks for reaching out and flagging this. I can understand how frustrating this must be. I have a few questions to help us get a better sense of what’s going on:
1) Have you checked your spam or trash folder? Sometimes our emails can get filtered there.
2) What email provider are you using? In some cases, domain-based emails may block Square notifications.
3) If you haven’t already, try adding our email address to your contact list.

Yes , those were the first steps I took before calling in to Square support. According to the square payroll specialist that I was connected to at 885 700 6000- Payroll does not send out email notifications such as "run payroll reminder email". I tried to explain that I've been running payroll for 2 years with square and have always received email reminders till just recently. Again the square payroll specialist insisted on that SQ payroll has never sent these reminders.
