If we have employees that want to work over 40 hours a week and earn that time as TOIL - Time off in lieu of pay - does the Square Payroll system or Shifts have the ability to track/calculate that?
@RelicRoad The straight answer is no it doesn't currently offer a direct way to track this type of benefit. You could use the PTO feature and enter in the fixed amount of overtime as PTO for each week/pay period and then manually adjust the hours to 40. and the balance would be there and tracked.
I must caution you, that TOIL is only for exempt salary type employees. You could easily enter in the hours over 40 the person has on a salary basis with payroll.
"According to the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), private sector, non-exempt employees covered by FLSA are not eligible for compensatory time off and must be paid with traditional overtime hours instead. FLSA also dictates that compensatory time off can only be given to private sector employees to use in the same pay period the overtime work was done, while those not covered by FLSA must use comp time by the end of the 26 pay periods after it has been earned."
So if you have any "hourly" employees, don't even try to do TOIL unless you really want to open yourself up to a department of labor investigation. One angry employee or dispute will have you in an audit.
