Opening a clothing retail store. What's the difference between the two on a functional level. I really like the Square Register for it's professional look and functionality.
I'm planning on doing the store with the ecommerce business plus pkg from from Weebly as well. Why wouldn't I want the Register?
Since Square register runs the Square POS software, the easiest thing to do is to compare the Square Point of Sale app with Square for Retail.

NOTE: So far as I know, Square for Retail is not compatible with Square Register.
Cumbersome, archaic, time consuming software and the “extras” are for the restaurants, it is seriously ridiculous and I’m sorry I wasted the money on the hardware and the $60 a month. I keep hoping to find the better way or easier format like I used to do with Retail Pro and I’m just wasting my time, it is that bad. If you want to enter inventory get ready to be completely frustrated at the amount of steps, different upcs for sizes of the same thing and old excel upload technology that somehow square makes even more complicated.
The Square register at this time supports Square Point of Sale.
Square Retail is not released yet for Square Register, although the peripherals are compatible if you were to purchase the Register now, the Retail software is not released for it yet.
The link Heather posted above does show the features between the different systems, but you would need to use the Square Stand in order to access the benefits of Square for retail.
