Turn off Auto-generate on an item

Super annoying that when I add a new item or new variation and scan in the sku it overrides anything I put in.  Most of the time the description is super long and NOT what I want to put in my system.  And if the item information can't be found, it won't save the sku I scanned in. Instead, I have to save and exit what I did, come back to the item and rescan.  SUPER ANNOYING and INEFFICIENT.  

Please let us be able to shut this feature off.  Please.
