Stock in multiple locations

Hi.

We have just opened a new store, two in total, which each have their own location on Square. We sell some of the same product in each store but have slightly changed the SKU to show which store has sold what. For some reason when I run the report, I use COGS report which I send to each supplier to show what has sold. It is picking up some items and showing them being sold in both locations but others are being grouped into one even though they have different SKU's. It is obviously something I done but I cannot see any differences when I look at the items.

Any help would be great.

Thanks 💚

Hi @Ethellovesme, thanks for your post 🙂

I'd be happy to help. This question may be slightly redundant, but I'd like to rule it out. When looking at the COGS report, did you filter by the specific location or all locations?

If you had filtered by location, and the same SKU is appearing in both reports, could you give me the name of an item for example so that I can take a closer look?

Hi Breffni.

Thanks so much for coming back to me.

I run the report over all locations. I just checked the report and filtered by location and they are both in their respective branch. The codes are slightly different - TJGP and TJGPT the second one denotes our other branch. It seems to pick up some of the different codes just not this one, one that works is TJCP and TJCPT.

I cannot see anything obvious but no doubt it is something I have done.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

I’m just following up on this for Breffni while she is out of office.

While I wasn’t able to replicate this issue of just one SKU being reflected on the COGS report, I’m confident from what you’ve described that it’s not something you’ve done wrong. So, I’ve gone ahead and requested a little insight from our Retail team to better understand what factors might be at play here.

I’ll update you as soon as the Retail team has had a chance to dig a little deeper @Ethellovesme.

You're very welcome Jason, and I'm quite sure you've got a fair grasp on what you're doing!

The Retail team have suggested that one potential cause could be the item having the same name across both locations and SKU’s.

When you head into your item library and search for TJGP, are both products listed under exactly the same name?

How do the item listings look when you search for TJCP? Is there a difference in how these two items are named?

I’ll await your reply before heading back to the Retail team for more information on the nuances of the COGS report @Ethellovesme.

Hi @Sineaid

Thank you for looking into this and coming back to me, sorry its taken me awhile to reply.

If I search TJGP both products come up, they both have exactly the same name but the SKU's are different - TJGP and TJGPT

With the other item TGCP the SKU's are different with the second one being TGCPT but the name is slightly different.

I was hoping that although the name is the same it would differentiate the two products by the SKU.

Any help is greatly received.

All the best,

Jason

Hi Jason,

No worries at all for the delayed response, and apologies for the same on my side - I’ve been out of office, so I’m just seeing this now.

The reporting team have confirmed that reports are currently based on the item name, rather than the SKU. So, if the item names are the same, the item data will unfortunately be combined in reports.

I’m afraid with this one, there is no workaround I could suggest other than slightly differentiating the item names. Or, running location based reports as Breffni had previously suggested.

Sorry I could help more on this one @Ethellovesme!

Hi Sineaid.

Thanks again for looking into this and will look a running reports for each location, I could merge them together so at least I am working from one spreadsheet.

Cheers,

Jason
