Square POS & Ecom setup (from Shopify)

Hi All,

Apologies for the general nature of this query but felt to ask this community(!)

We are a retailer using Shopify POS and Ecom. All is absolutely fine, if somewhat expensive and lots of features we don't fully utilise.

Seeing Square in a fellow local retailer recently and how slick it was from a customer interaction perspective has made us re-think our POS offering (esp love the card reader piece) but exploring the wider implications of switching totally from Shopify to Square POS and Ecom. (so not committed to this as yet)

I appreciate we need to build a new site, so is anyone aware of an import facility so we could populate either or both POS system and/or the Square website with our current Shopify content? Just looking at how much work is involved and if its manual then so be it, but will take longer. Appreciate any feedback from fellow retailers who may have undertaken the switch from Shopify to Square

Many thanks,

Stephen

Hi @StephenA - thanks for your post, I'm happy to help here as much as possible, moving providers is definitely a bit project that requires careful consideration.

As a community moderator, I can offer some advice on the process but I don't have first-hand experience. @doc_choc I may be wrong but did you have a Shopify store at some stage? If you have any advice you can offer here it would be great!

We don't have any tool that would allow you to move your content over to Square Online as it is (perhaps a developer may be able to do so) - but we do have an Items import/export tool that would allow you to upload your item library (prices, stock, etc) into a CSV/Excel file, this will sync for both your physical item library and your online library.

With that data uploaded, you would need to rebuild your website manually. You can use the free Square sub-domain for as long as you need to build your site and test things out while keeping your Shopify account active.

I know you mentioned there are features you don't make use of, feel free to review our full range of Square Online features per subscription here

I also found this article on our website -  A Square vs. Shopify comparison

If you have any other questions about anything at all just let me know!

Square Champion

Hi there @StephenA

Building the website is made really easy with Square Online, something not to worry about.

You can export your library on shopify to Excel/csv file once you have this you can use the import function on Square dashboard item library to bring the library across,  which will sync with the online library.

Download the export template so you are using the latest version, cut and paste across the corresponding columns, they may have different header names but easy enough to figure out these.

Images you will gave to add manually.

Hope this helps
