Hi, I've been subscribed/paying for retail since I begun with Square about 18 months ago. Reason being only retail has the COGS report.
However, we have been using the regular POS. I'm not entirely sure why?
We run a bar/pub business.
I now notice that Retail allows inventory for things like a keg of beer which contains 50 pints, and would allow us to sell portions like 1/2, 2/3, 1 pint?
Should I switch to Retail version?
I also use a Square Terminal but only as a customer facing terminal for our Square iPad stand.
Help 🙂
Thanks
D
Hi @Dirky, 😊
There's a few things to note here.
It sounds like the main reason you need your Square for Retail plus subscription is for the advanced reporting features, such as Cost of Goods Sold.
I think the reason you've been using the Point of Sale app is because you want to connect it the Square Terminal for that checkout experience. At the moment Square Terminal can only connect to the Square Point of Sale app. Square for Restaurants, Square for Retail, Square Invoices and Square Appointments are not yet supported.
I would suggest testing out both apps and seeing which works better for you espeically if you want to use the new Sell-by units and stock conversion for Square for Retail.
Also you may not be aware, because you subscribe to Retail plus, if you process transactions through the Retail app the transaction fees are 1.6%, but if you are using the Point of Sale app the transaction fees will be the standard 1.75%.
Feel free to check out this breakdown of features between Square for Retail Free, Square for Retail Plus and Square Point of Sale, it might help but mostly I think you're going to need to test out the different features of both before you can make a decision.
I hope this useful, let me know if I can help with anything else. Or maybe some other sellers here on the Community have a similar set up as you and can share some tips.
