Managing stock using Shopify and square?

Hi currently I have my domain and website through shopify but use Square point of sale for my in-person retail operation.  I don't have any online sales at the moment but would like to start but is there on easy or obvious way of being able to manage my stock if I'm selling through two different systems.

Ideally I would like to move my website and domain from shopify to square so everything is all in one place but because I have a .co.uk address it seems to be really complicated.  Has anybody got any easy solutions for someone that's not particular technical.

Thanks

Hi @Hausandco, thanks for your post and welcome to the Seller Community 🙂

Given that we don't have a direct partnership with Shopify, in this case, there would be no way to sync your stock on both platforms, unfortunately.

So the options here would be to keep everything separate or to move your domain and site over to Square.

I do agree that .co.uk transfers can be daunting. I had a similar case like this and there is some context in the answer marked as best answer here

Basically .co.uk domains cannot be transferred so you will need to connect your domain to use Square, which means your billing will remain with your current host.

Here is some information on connecting domains to Square. To connect a domain you change your domain's IP address to match Squares. The main thing to note is that it takes 24-48 hours to propagate after changes are made, so your site will be unpublished during that time.

I hope this helps, if you do decide to go with this option, just let us know, we're here to help!

Stick with Shopify and use their POS. Ditch Square. I wish I had. It's a bit more pricey and you might need a developer just to get you off the ground but after the year of frustrations I've had with Square (and continue to do so), it's a price worth paying.

Hi @Hausandco we always have a domain registered through a third party, 123-reg, godaddy or the like then just point the DNS to the correct IP address. Shopify should be able to assist with pointing your DNS records of their servers which hold your domain to any service provider in this case Square. It's sounds complicated but it's just a case of when somebody searches for your domain which is picked up by the Shopify DNS server, which then direct the request to the Square servers which host your website. Just a few DNS record changes on the Shopify side.

Hi @Hausandco I would taking a look at the Square online functionslity to see if it meets your needs. If it does I would switch. We use Square POS in store and another provider hosting the website, we had stock management issues. We switched to Square online for closer and more robust inventory control. Worked really well.

Hi @Hausandco , repointing your domain from shopify to Square is a relatively simple process and something the shopify customer support should be able to help you with. I would give them a call.

If they ask why you are moving, just say 'Square rocks!' 🙃

Managing stock between Shopify and Square can be simplified by integrating the two platforms using a third-party inventory management app. This integration ensures accurate and up-to-date inventory across your online and in-person operations. While Square offers basic online selling features, consider the customization and advanced e-commerce functionality of Shopify before deciding to move your website and domain. Research your options and consult with experts to make an informed decision. Best of luck with your online sales journey!
