Every other POS that I have used by major retailers offer a way to Tender a Check that is written over the charged amount. Usually this would offer a way to enter the exact check amount so it is logged as the correct amount tendered on the books. Then being able to choose what tender to give the remainder back. i.e. Cash Back or Gift Card etc.
The way it is currently in Square as far as we can tell, is that if the customer say rounds up on a written check or writes over to tip our service staff, which happens often, than we have to have our accountant fix everything in Quickbooks after the fact. This happens almost daily and is quite frustrating.
We use Square for Retail for our Pet Retail store as well as Dog Grooming and Boarding Services.
Any Ideas?
@DOGeDAY You can use a no-tax item that has no price set to key in for the overage amount/tip. We have done this and if the customer presents a check for say $110.00 on a $100 sale. We just use an item called "manual tip". This makes an easily trackable item for the tips on a report and should make it very easy to fix in any accounting program. It is still a gross revenue item, but it is an expense owed to someone else (employee).
So at the close of day, your reporting will match the different tender types, and you can cash out the manual tips as a paid out/expense etc.
Hope this helps,
