How can I setup my inventory when the parts I use is based on a third party providing it to me?

Hello Community!

How can I setup my square inventory to link up with a third party provider who provides me the parts?  I build custom fishing rods to my client's liking but that is totally dependent on the third party having those resources available.

Hi there @fatboyfish81 👋

Is it possible that you're looking for Vendor Management, or are you asking about something else?

Hi Valentina,

Please forgive me for responding so late.  It is very busy with starting my business and I tend to get pulled in different directions.  That might be what I'll need.  As of now, when I send my estimates to my clients all of the part's information is created by me when I create each item.  I'll have my square account open and another tab on my computer I'll have the vendor whose parts I use for my rod builds.  It is a headache having to create each item's sku, price, description, etc while moving back and forth between tabs.  I don't have the subscription but from what I'm doing do you think Vendor Management will help me in this?

@fatboyfish81 It does sound like you could benefit from the Square for Retail subscription. I think Vendor management will help with that, but it also sounds like you could utilize the Purchase Order feature where you can order and add inventory at the same time. Both purchase orders and vendor management will tie together.

Vendor Management with Square for Retail is designed to help you manage your inventory and wholesale purchasing. Each vendor has a distinct profile and product list with associated unit costs. You can add contact information, assign an account number, and additional notes to help you keep track of ordering details for each vendor.

Vendor Management also allows you to enter both SKUs and vendor codes:

  • SKUs help you search and build your cart from your Retail app, as well as streamline inventory intake.
  • Vendor codes are often used by a vendor for internal reference.

Including both SKUs and vendor codes for an item will help you connect the dots between items in your library with the codes vendors use to identify their products. If a vendor code includes a bar code, you’ll be able to Add Stock from the Retail POS app for received orders by scanning vendor code directly.
