I'm using my laptop/dashboard for orders. I have a device profile set up to be able to create and save orders, but I cannot get the device profile to work on my laptop. Any suggestions?
Hello @ragenewengland !
Device profiles are primarily used for configuring the apps available on your tablet, phone, or any Square device. Square itself doesn't have a laptop based point of sale system except for the Payment Links.
What kind of profile are you trying to set up on your dashboard? Employee access for certain items? The ability to take in person orders?
I created a profile to save orders as drafts. It works on my tablet, but not on my laptop (as I cannot assign the profile to it). I use my laptop for most orders.
Logging in a computer gets you access to things an employee should not see. The only way to log in on a computer is with the owners credentials. The best I can think of if you have a Chromebook is to download the Android App on your Chromebook, which still is not a full on computer. This might allow you to get setup with a Device code or user but it would like the Android App I believe and not like the WebSite Dashboard. I can try this at my Store tomorrow, but currently we use the main Login on the Chromebook through the Backoffice since its only immediate family that uses it.
Just following up here, Yes on a Chromebook you can download and install the App. Which then with the App installed you can give device Profiles for it. So the Chromebook would work with Square just like an Android phone or Tablet with a Larger screen. Even my Bluetooth Card reader connected to the Chromebook, now my Square compatible USB barcode scanner (DS2208) did connect to the Square App on the Chromebook. You just need to Tap the Search area before scanning an item.
Thanks. I don't have a chromebook. We use our laptop for most orders. I created a profile to save orders as drafts. It works on our tablet, but not our laptop. We use our laptop for most orders.
I just looked on my computer and went to create an order to save as a Draft, I know you can do this when creating an Invoice but I never tried it with an Order, till just now on a comupter. There is no way to create a Draft order that I am aware of or any buttons on a PC to click on to place as a draft. Would you be able to do this with Invoice?
Just following up here, @ragenewengland - It looks like @Candlestore provided some great insight here. Were you able to get this set up the way you wanted it? Or at least close to it?
Unfortunately no.
