Stock levels slow to sync

Hello,

We have recently started using square and find that the stock feature is slow to sync between all the devices. We currently use two square registers, one ipad and have just introduced two kiosks.

I find even when updating the stock levels on the device we are using it doesn't always do it straight away. Also similar problem when using the dashboard.

Has anyone got advice on this?

Thankyou!! 😀

Hi @ForgeDam

Thanks for reaching out to the community on this!

While inventory sync doesn’t happen in real time, it should occur momentarily, after stock has been updated or sold. As the sync is cloud based, one factor that will always impact the speed at which this happens, is connectivity. So, if this issue is only apparent recently, I’d suggest running a speed test before, and after rebooting your router, to compare the results. That should help you to narrow it down, if it’s a Wi-Fi issue that’s been causing the delayed sync.

Another possible issue is potentially outdated software/firmware across your devices. If you head over to Device Management on your Dashboard, you’ll be able to see the last date your Point of Sale software was updated for each device.

Ordinarily by default, your installed apps will be updated when your device software is updated, or overnight in the case of Square hardware. However, this is not always the case when for example a software update is interrupted by connectivity issues. So, I’d suggest double checking that all of your devices are fully up to date.

To update your Register:

  1. Tap ≡ More > Settings > Hardware > General.
  2. Tap About Square Terminal or About Square Register.
  3. From this page, you’ll see your software version.
  4. Tap Check for Update to see if a software update is available.
  5. If you see Software Up To Date then you are all set.

To update your iPads (iOS 14+):

  1. Plug your device into a power source.

  2. From the device’s home screen, tap Settings > General > Software Update.

  3. Tap ‘Download and Install’.

  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update.

I appreciate this may seem like very standard advice, however in most cases it does tend to smooth out any issues.

That being said, if you're experiencing substantial delays in synchronisation, I'd most certainly like to take a different approach and closer look. If you let me know what kind of delays you're seeing, and tell me the OS and app versions that are currently running on your iPads and Registers, we can take it from there.

Hello @Sineaid

I have checked that everything is up to date on both the ipads and the register however the stock feature is still not working properly.

I have ran an internet speed check which i will attatch.

It seems to be an intermittent problem

Today the stock count was going down on our items however when i enabled one of our sandwich with an inventory count the item was still showing as out of stock for around an hour until eventually it caught up with itself. During this time the stock count was still going down on other items as normal

Do you have any further advice?

Thankyou
