Restrict item availability by time

There should be a way to limit item availability based on the time of day and even day of week. This feature has been brought to Square Online for categories but needs to makes it's way to individual item setup for restaurants.

 

For instance, a restaurant might only serve prime rib on Thursday from 4-9 pm and the POS should be able to restrict ordering during certain timeframes to prevent staff from making errors.

Yes, I have a restaurant using a lunch menu only available from 11-4. I do use the online function of this but it would be much better to have an in house feature as well. This will eliminate us from having to go in and turn those specific items to out of stock or unavailable and forgetting to turn those back on.

We'd love to have this for both Categories and Items. 

 

I'd like for this to extend to Square Online, as well as the new DoorDash integration.

 

For example, on busy days like weekends, we'd like to keep online ordering on at our restaurant, but with a curated menu for volume.

We would love this as well and is something that Lightspeed implemented right before we left them for Square in 2022. We have a brunch menu and a dinner menu, both of which pull to our online platform and third party platforms. If there was a way to stipulate when either a menu or item was available, that would allow us to expand how we handle online/third party orders as well as keep our staff from accidentally ringing something in that is not available at that time.

 

@kristen I know it’s only been a few months since this was moved to open, but has there been any additional discussion/conversation on this?

👋 Hi @AlexMPH - no additional movement on this request yet! Square Product folks are currently planning for the next big Square Release, which will happen before the end of this year. When I recently checked, this is not on the roadmap, but the team is aware and will reassess the scope of work in coming planning cycles. Thanks again for writing!

For the next pipeline roadmap, keep in mind that ideally categories and items would appear and disappear during their available daypart.

 

Currently there's a drop down for 'all items' vs. 'available items' which is confusing to guests. Unavailable categories are visible but not able to be ordered.

I think in today's paradigm with Uber/DoorDash, customers only expect to see what is available for purchase 'now'.
