Calculator for cash payments accepted via Square Dashboard

It may be hard to believe but people still use cash. Now more than ever. We appreciate non-cash payments BUT when a customer pays with cash, we have to find a calculator to ensure the correct amount is given back. Having this feature accessible on the RECORD CASH PAYMENT would be extremely helpful and time consuming.

It is weird that Square does not have the same setup on the Virtual Terminal as they do on the Square Apps.  When I press Charge on those devices it asks how much cash was received and then tells you how much change to give.  I wonder why that is not done on the virtual terminal?   The only thing I can think of is a few years ago Square updated the Virtual Terminal, to add some features but not too many people used their computer to take in store purchases. I use the virtual terminal for Phone orders so I do not use a register or get in a sales associates way up front.  Since these are phone orders they are Credit Card transactions on the virtual terminal for me, so I never noticed the issue with taking cash until seeing this post.  Since you are using a Computer and the virtual terminal, you can put a calculator that is easy to access.  You could click on to open so you do not have to go look for one.  I actually keep one on my PC in the system tray for when I need to calculate cost per piece when buying online in bulk.

You could have the calculator on half the screen and the virtual terminal on the other side like in the photo below.  I know this is not ideal but it can help you till Square adds this feature.

Not sure why this did not show in my first reply to your Ideate, But here is what I meant for a work around for you till you Square can do something in the virtual terminal that is more efficient than this.

@Kassi_ In this same vain, we should be able to connect the Square USB Cash drawer with Virtual terminal as well. Virtual Terminal should work exactly the same as any other format of Square. I need to use my computer to check out my clients and I cannot use the USB cash drawer. Would love for this to become a feature (as it already should be for all square accessories and virtual terminal!) Thank you!!

Hello @c_edwards I appreciate you reaching out with this request. I do want to clarify our all-compatible is from third-party vendors, Square does not have its own cash drawer model. I certainly understand the business need for this request and would also suggest submitting a request to our Ideate Board. You can also reach out to Star Micronics and APG, the manufacturers of the cash drawers to make that request as well. Thank you again for your input.

You do not need a calculator for the terminal when someone pays cash. You can easily just print the receipt and it displays the change owed right on the bottom 🙂
