User scheduled software update

Not all of us leave our POS terminals on all the time, to allow for a scheduled reboot/auto update. I would greatly appreciate the ability to postpone a forced software update when manually booting the terminal, so as to be able to immediately take a payment. On more than one occasion I have been embarrassingly forced to wait for a software update to complete before being able to take a payment, which has resulted in lost sales. Samsung, as just one example, allows a user postponement when pushing software updates. This should be fairly simple to implement.

One of the benefits of Square Terminal is that we offer the option to automatically update your software, so you will always have access to the latest features and improvements. The software is updated approximately every 2-4 weeks. To ensure your Square Terminal can update overnight - just make sure it’s plugged in and powered on, but the display can be turned off. To turn off the display, simply tap the power button quickly and Square Terminal will go to sleep. 

If you’ve powered down your Square Terminal overnight and there are software updates available, the updates will be applied when you next power on your device. If you have not enabled automatic updates, you'll need to reboot your Square Terminal and then the update can typically take around 20 minutes to complete but may take up to an hour. You can find additional details on updating your software here in our Support Center.
