Terminal Software Updates are Slow to Install

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: updates take forever

 

Why do the updates say they'll take 5-10 minutes, however it's been installing the update since around 6:15am and it's now 11:41am? This is honestly ridiculous.

Perhaps providing some more info would be helpful - example - which updates, what devices, device age, operating system etc.  Providing details may help others here understand what may be your root cause   Please understand that the volunteers here are not the same as Tech or Customer Support but, there is quite a bit of hands-on experience here.   In our experience, it's never taken more than a minute or two to update (Square POS App) our devices.  Note, we only use our devices for processing transactions - we don't have other apps open other than Square's POS App so we're not using any other resources.  For example, we use both iPhones and iPads, we always try to ensure that we have the latest IOS and the latest Square POS App.  Our main setup is an iPad with a Square Stand, USB Hub, Contactless and Chip Reader and a Receipt Printer - have not had issues.

Mine is also taking forever to update it's been almost 2 hrs now. Did yours ever get updated?

Just checking to see if your terminals updated or not? I see @JK_Fiber_Art did ask some clarifying questions to help us try and troubleshoot so if you get a chance to answer those, it will greatly help!

-What devices?

 

-How old is the device?

I have no idea what update, it started updating on its own its a square terminal from 2019. I ended up turning it off overnight and started it back up this morning and it's back to normal. 20240928_071716.jpg
