QSR Digital Tips Jar
If you could have a 'Digital Tips Jar' on your counter, where a customer just taps their phone/card to leave a tip for your staff - what amount would you set it to?
I've had it as a feature request for so long I can't find all the posts about it any more 🤣
I'm in the UK with a pizza van, so don't really want the tips option when they order as it's a 'click no to continue' where they have to consciously not tip - but would be nice to still give that option as quite a few tip when ordering online.

Great questin @Sam_400º . If the tip isn't connected directly to a purchase at the time it's ordered, I'd say something separate from a percentage of the sale (if it happens after a sale, or even online). Maybe 1-2 dollars/pounds? I think tipping culture is different in the UK & Europe than the States; here in the US some consumers see tipping as a cultural mandate getting out of control. Everyone, everywhere is asking for tips, and some are just out of principle choosing to pick SKIP or NO on a tipping screen.
In a related idea, it wonder if it might encourage more tips and feedback in general if Square could ask for something like what happens when we get an Amazon delivery. I get an email that says "your package was delivered", along with a picture of the package on my porch, and an option to give the driver a compliment. You can click on things like "respected property", "delivery on time", "great service", etc. I wonder if Square can set up an automation that would email customers after their order/meal, with a description of what they ordered and a request if they want to "compliment the chef", "thanks for a great meal", "Great Service", "Prompt delivery", etc. Not sure if an extra tip could be combined with this kind of feedback, but I think the more a seller can make a connection between great service/food/item....and a request for a tip, the more inclined the consumer would be to make the click to give a tip. ???

Thought I toss in a few thoughts.
I have seen some similar questions like yours here before - mostly from artists who perform (music, etc) and would like a way to accept tips electronically - people like the option of using their smart devices. It's a great thought but, there are a few things to consider. I believe Square does not provide a stand alone Tip option or item - it's an option that has to included with other items in an order. The work around would be to create a Donation item which can be a stand alone but, there's a downside - first, there's a transaction processing fee and next there's the possibly of the funds being reported to the IRS as income via a 1099 (at least that the way it works in the US). Even though the thought is to distribute the funds to your staff which is great, it's going to cost you some money and look like income you've earned. At least that's that's my thoughts. Probably the best option is to simply accept cash - there's no paper trail and/or other issues to be concerned about.
