I'm new to Square, so I feel like I'm asking stupid questions. I hate being a pest, but I'm confused about uploading full product listings.
I have been trying to connect my items to Google and Meta channels and both platforms are kicking back my listings for different reasons. In Google's case, they want Age Group, Gender and Color specified. Meta wants the quantity to sell update.
I managed to re-upload a spreadsheet with the quantity on hand, but can't figure out how to bulk update Google's required fields.
I upload my products en masse from a spreadsheet and then match photos to the products because I find the process to be much faster. Color is something I'd add to that spreadsheet if it were possible.
Are there better ways to initially upload complete product listings? Or is there a plugin/utility that would help manage this?
Hi @ClaytonKing. I’m going to preface my answer with a caveat. Yes, there is a way to do this with Square tools. It’s better than nothing, but it can still take some time depending on how many items you have in your catalog. This is because:
Anyway, to do this, follow these steps:
You can bulk update custom attributes in Square by following these steps:
For more details, refer to the article on Bulk edit items and Create and edit custom item attributes.
@ClaytonKing After you’ve done this rather tedious exercise, you definitely want to consider defining these as you add new items. It’s not a task I’d want to do more than once, for sure!
Also, if you are so inclined, I’d submit a feature request to Square asking them to consider moving this functionality to the Actions button, rather than the Edit Items button and allow a quicker “add this custom attribute to all selected items.”
With Square and Items you sell with different attributes like Color or Size, You could create Option Sets. Here is more about Options and Variations : 6689-item-options
Basically since I sell and Make candles in say 18 sizes, I created and option set called candle Sizes. So when I add a New scent (Item) I choose to add Option Set Candle Sizes and select the 18 sizes. Then Square creates 18 Variations based off of my Option Set Candle Sizes. You can then Export you Catalog and see this as a CSV. This will basically give you a Template how to lay out your Items in a CSV to import to Square. Square has these 2 main columns that define if the Item is New or updating the current information, Token in a CSV file and Refrence Handle and Token in an Excel file. If these have No information in them they will create these fields as a NEW intem.
So here is what I would do,
You could also export your catalog from Square to a CSV or Excel file after creating an Item with all the Variations from your Option Set. That would give you a Sample CSV or Excel file of how an Item with Variations looks as a spreedsheet from Square.
To use the Format delete the fields under Refrence Handle and Token Columns. If those fields have information, that information is an Items or Variations unique Identifier for Updating the Item or variation. If the Token Refrence fields are blank Square treats the rest of the data as a New item.
Use the Find Replace feature to Replace Sample (Item Name from step 2 above) with what ever you want for an item.
Save this file as your Item Name. Now in Square Upload the Newly saved spreadsheet file. In your Square Catalog you will have 2 items now 1 item as Sample, and 1 Item with whatever you replaced sample with in the saved file. The 2nd Item should have all the Variations also.
You can check everything make sure it is correct.
Now you can open that Sample File and copy the Sample Item and All its variations. Again Rename Sample to your New Items Name.
Now Paste the copied Item and Variations below, And repeat naming Sample to the Next Item. You can not just copy the Intial item and paste it below and repeat because of search replace Sample with XYZ because your entire csv would be Identica
