Is it possible to customize the Mobile Phone Home Screen Icon?

I have a feature request! Not sure if this is the correct place, but I’m curious to see if anyone else would find this valuable?

I’d love to be able to customize the “app icon” (not sure what else to call it) when customers save our website to their phone’s Home Screen.

If you’re not sure what I mean, read on…

I love the idea of having my own app for my cafe. However, by using our own Square Online website thru Weebly, I’ve found that customers can simply save our website to their Home Screen as shown below (on an iPhone)

it basically creates a web app and keeps us front and center on the users phone by adding an app-looking icon to their phones home page. Check the image below to see mine highlighted in the blue square

The only bummer is that the app icon is a very generic black box with white text that says our name across it. It blends into all the other apps and shows nothing of our branding or logo

so here’s my feature request. I would love to have an option in Square Online to upload an image of my logo/Branding for when customers save my website to their phone’s homepage (and essentially create something that looks and feels like an app!). I think it would make us stand out more, look more professional, be easier for customers to find on their phone, and keep our branding consistent across all platforms

in my brain it seems almost as simple as adding an icon for the url bar at the top of the website? But maybe not - but that’s essentially what I’d like!

Hello @grovetealounge thanks for your post. This certainly is a great idea, and making a shortcut to your website for your customer is awesome! I didn't even think about doing this. I tried this myself and I got just the text on a colored background just as you did. Note, my background was yellow which is a color in my website theme, so maybe that information is coming from the theme? .....

I did some more research and found you CAN change this, but may required an upgrade your site. You'll have to see if you have access to this feature. Check out this link for what you're looking to do. I hope this helps you with your issue.

@grovetealoungethanks again for your post...I learned something I never really knew, and that's the great things about the Square Seller Community! Sharing info with other Square users only makes our community stronger! Kudos! FYI, I tried the link I posted and changed my own App icon, and created a homescreen icon for my own web page. It looks great...and just a tip, if you save your icon as a .png with transparent background edges, you can also select a background color once you insert your icon. Great for branding with your own specific colors!
