How to use barcode scanners in square

Kiss Me Comix is a seller of Graphic Adventures, in both print and digital formats, apparel, wall art in various sizes. We would like to be able to use a barcode scanner to scan our items for checkout,

Do we need square retail to do this?? I am aware we need a compatible device that can connect to an android item, also does it need an extra app ??

We are confused and want the information to set up? Once conventions can be available for 2021 and beyond.

The ability to use a scanner can be done in the standard Square POS as well as Square Retail.  Once you connect your scanner to the USB connector, you can go into Account & Settings Hardware Scanners to enable the scanner.  Once enabled, you can begin scanning your items with sku barcodes.

I cant seem to get this to work. I have Square Retail POS app on ipad. I have a barcode scanner that works to put the barcode into an item (only if I hit the GTIN section) which is one issue I am running into - but the real issue is that when I try to get items into a customer cart, if I scan the item, it doesn’t show up in checkout anywhere (no error, just doesn’t seem to work). Please help! Thanks

Hello, when I scan an item that a customer wants, the square system finds the item but it does not automatically go into their cart, I still have to add it. Is this how it is supposed to work? I was hoping to speed up check out.

@Sabetha , what device are you on when you are doing this (ie. mobile phone, ipad on square stand, etc).

When you are in Square on phone or ipad on square stand, you can go to the Checkout section and then scan the items and they will add to the order.  You can scan quickly to handle all items the customer wants efficiently.

Welcome to the Community, @Sabetha -

I went ahead and moved your post to thread where other sellers are asking a similar question.

Could you give me some more information on your set up - hardware, Retail subscription, etc? And your process on how you're checking out your customers?

This will give me some more insight on the best route for you.

I will keep an eye out for your reply👀.

Sorry to hear about the trouble here @LavenderPatch! What is the model name / number of the barcode scanner you're trying to connect?

If your items are in square, you can enter price and add images and quantity on hand and more.

Then when you scan the items from your Square POS, the item will go right into the cart for the customer with the price and when that customer checks out the quantity on hand will be reduced.
