How do I add a modifier to an item in store but hide that modifier for the same item online?

Hello everyone, thank you in advance for your help.

I'm trying to add a modifier to a sandwich which would allow me to say (no tomatoes) or (no cucumbers) when taking a customers order in store. But I would like to hide this modifier for the same item when it is purchased online. Is there a way to currently do this?

Hi JJ, thanks for getting back to me.

I tried that option yesterday and found that when I remove a modifier from an online item it also removed the modifier from the POS in store. But I did end up finding a way.

Online > Site Items > Items > Select Item > scroll sown to Modifiers > click 3 dots next to desired modifier > click Customize > scroll to bottom and select 'Hide' next to each listed modifier option > Done > Save

Hello @RoniM  and welcome to the Seller Community

In order to accomplish this you can visit the desired item that you which to remove a modifier. Then head to the Manage Modifiers Section and click on the X on the right. Doing this will remove the Modifier from the Online experience but will keep it at the Point of Sale.

To get to the Manage Modifiers area, you will want to go to Item > Site Items > Select the Item and then scroll down and click Manage Modifiers.

Important: This only works to hide modifiers from Square Online. At this time modifiers cannot be hidden on the Square Point of Sale application.

I hope this information is helpful!

Oh! Glad you were able to find that option this must've been a recent update that flew over my head. Thanks for sharing your findings here.

Thank you. This should be better documented by Square because it was hard to find. Too bad each individual modifier instance needs to be edited. It’s taking my forever to update 20 items hiding a modifier set each with 15 options.

You're welcome! I hope it helped save some time. It took a lot of digging when I was doing it before I found it. I also had over 100 items so it wasn't fun. I'm sure @JJ_ passed this to the product team already

Is there a bulk way to hide modifiers from online?  I need them available for the POS but don't want customers to see them online.  I have over 800 products and it would be quite an undertaking to update each item just to hide the modifier.

Hey there @VSD1765 thanks for reaching out to The Seller Community!

At this time there is no way to bulk-hide modifiers, I definitely understand how frustrating it would be to manually do all this. You can certainly add a feature request on our Ideate Board. I am tagging some of our Super Sellers who might have some workarounds or ideas in the meantime to better assist @Doran @TCSlaguna @HC_Charlie @LLCafe, thank you guys again for all your help!

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
