Categories in Inventory - Why did you remove the ability to create categories from ADD ITEM

I really would like to know who decided to make the absolutely brilliant decision to remove the ability to create a category while creating items.  Now you need to EXIT, go into categories, create the category, then go back into the item and add the new category.  YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY ADDED SIGNIFICANT WORK AND TIME to what was an easy and efficient process.  CHANGE IT BACK. ALSO, you can no longer drag and drop to rearrange categories, but you need to use that stupid up or down arrow.  AGAIN, who was the brillian decision maker on this?  Becaue they have now created a massive time suck and effort.  Having to click each up button 100 times to move a category is INSANE.  SERIOUSLY?  Do you have children there making these decisions?  Obviously it is no one that actually must USE the system.  Anyone else experiencing this horrific change?

@TRC2020 While I agree with you that there were some rather odd decisions made in this revamp, insults and abusive language are  not the way to effect change. “Do you have children there making these decisions?” You’re not effectively making your case here. You’re just insulting people needlessly.

I’m going to look at this objectively from a fellow seller standpoint tomorrow when I’m not so tired. But could you please be more professional and factual in future posts? In this forum we try to help  each other and convince Square to make better decisions. Your post only serves to alienate the very people you want to convince. Trust me, I’ve questioned some recent design change decisions. But I and others know to keep the conversation on a more adult level. You’d do well to do the same.

Chip:  I don't care about alienating anyone.  I pay for a service, I expect it to work.  I've run and fixed many multi-million and multi-billion dollar companies and am very well aware of how management and product teams should handle things and how roll-outs should occur.  You see, I've spent a career being the person they bring in to fix these broken companies and management teams when they fail.  These teams, particuluarly their management team is failing miserably in the delivery of their services and handing them a lolli-pop and asking nicely to fix the problem, which is one in MANY that we have is not a solution.  If you don't like my comments, just don't read them or move on.  It's that simple.

It is his opinion. And I and others agree with him. He is 100% factual about this. The new category system is very inefficient. I didn't find what he said to be unprofessional at all. Why is stating the truth these days so insulting? "You'd do well to do the same"? That sounds like a threat... real professional.

I 100% agree with you. This was a dumb decision on Square's part. It is totally inefficient. I almost have my squarespace site created, I'll be leaving this site as soon as I'm done. They need to hire people that know how to make a more efficient website. And "Therealchipa" can calm down. You didn't say anything that was unprofessional. I know several vendors that use Square and they all agree that the new category system is inefficient.
