[WooCommerce Integration] - Digital Wallets in Australia

Not so long ago, Square announced that Apple Pay/Google Pay was finally possible for Square Online Stores.  Although it's great news, I wonder if Apple/Google Pay is also available for online transactions via the WooCommerce Square plugin for online shops registered in Australia.

The WooCommerce documentation section doesn't mention Australia in the digital wallet section of the Square Plugin, but it might be due to a lack of documentation updates:

https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-square/#section-14

Thanks for clarifying, and thanks for any release time if any.

Thanks

My Question:

Is Apple Pay/Google Pay available for online transactions via the WooCommerce Square plugin for online shops registered in Australia as of Sep-2022?

Hey @DigitalTree,

Thanks for writing in with this question!

I've followed up with our eCommerce team to confirm if Apple Pay and Google Pay are also available via WooCommerce in Australia. While my initial instinct is that it should also be available here, I'll follow up with you here as soon as I have a definitive answer.

Thanks for your patience here, @DigitalTree 🙂 It looks like you should be able to add Apple Pay / Google Pay to your site via these steps:

1. Within WooCommerce, navigate to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Square and enable Digital Wallets in the gateway settings.
2. Check that your domain has been automatically verified by navigating to WooCommerce > Status > Logs and check your latest Square log.
3. You’re all set!

Please let us know how you go!

Hi Arie,

Thanks. The domain is marked as successfully verified by Apple Pay in the log (point 2); however, I didn't manage to enable Digital Wallets in the gateway settings (point 1) despite following all the pieces of advice here and there about this topic in the case of an Australian-based shop.

Hi, DigitalTree, just jumping in for @Arie here while they're out of the office.

Just so I'm on the same page with you here, when following the first step (above) in WooCommerce, are you receiving any messaging indicating there is an error enabling Digital Wallets? Are you prompted to complete any additional steps?

It becomes a little tricky for us to troubleshoot this issue if the block is occurring on the WooCommerce platform. Although Square integrates with WooCommerce to process payments, the integration is operated and managed by WooCommerce. For help with completing these steps on the WooCommerce platform, we recommend reaching out directly to their Support Team.

Let us know if you run into any issues reaching out to this team.

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for your answer earlier on. WooCommerce finally confirmed that their in-house plugin, "Woocommerce Square" is not handling Square via Apple Pay in Australia yet.

I'm now trying to use the Woosquare Plus Woocommerce plugin from APIExperts.io, an "Official Square Solution Partner," according to their website. I bought this premium Woosquare Plus plugin for their Apple pay support after being confirmed twice by APIExperts.io that payment via Apple Pay for an Australian Square account would be supported.

Unfortunately, the Apple Pay button appears at checkout but remains "insensitive": nothing happens when clicking on it. APIExperts.io support has yet to find a solution. Could you confirm on Square's end that this  "Woosquare Plus" plugin officially uses a Square API that allows online payments via Apple Pay in Australia? Any tip to fix this non-reactive incentive Apple Pay button?

Thank you

Hi, @DigitalTree, thanks for sharing an update here.

I wish I could provide further assistance here but this is a question better suited to the WooSquare Plus Support Team. While we can assist you in setting up your third-party integrations, we simply don't have the scope to troubleshoot these platform-specific questions.

From looking at the Square for WooCommerce page again today, they confirm that both Google and Apple pay are supported on their platform for Australian accounts. All I can really recommend you do is ensure you've enabled Apple Pay from your Square Online overview page. Based on the information they have provided us, this payment type should be available once you've successfully integrated with their platform, how the plugin differs to this I'm not too sure. With this in mind, we'll need to wait on a response from their team with the next steps.

Feel free to update include an update on this thread once you hear back from their team!
