Square seems to rave on about it's website templates on the page below, but in reality they only provide ONE template!
https://squareup.com/au/en/online-store/website-templates
With no clear information about how they only really provide ONE template people get very frustrated after creating an account with Square and spending ...minutes...hours trying to find a way to change the website template!
Hey @PeterPC,
Thanks for writing back into our community.
I understand your frustration regarding templates on Square Online. These template options will only come up when you create your site at first. You can of course still adjust the look of your site after initially choosing a template. Select the page you'd like to edit in your Online Site editor, and scroll to Customise to choose between different layout and colour options. I'll go ahead and pass your feedback about the option to choose templates later on to our eComm team!
Hi Arie
Thanks for your reply.
You mean...
Site editor -> Site Design?
Only see "Site Design" in my editor.
In the "Site Design" I can only change:
Logo
Fonts
Colours and button design.
I can't change the template
If I create a new site I am not given the option to use a different template, only the same template that I am using.
Hey @PeterPC,
Square Online itself is a template based website editing platform. It initially gives you the chance to start off with two basic "templates" - Retail and Restaurant - from there you can customise the exact appearance of each element from the basic template within the Site Editor.
These initial templates are designed to serve as a starting point, however to fully customise how the website looks, you'll need to edit the pages from within the Site Editor. The entire Site Editor itself is essentially a template-based editor - it's a collection of smaller templates that you can add, remove and edit to change the way they appear on your website.
I can see that it'd be handy to be able to switch back and forth between presets once you're already going, though this would also have the potential to break any custom changes you've made to the website layout that fall outside of your starting design (the default Restaurant or Retail).
I am surprised that the option isn't available upon setting up a new website - it looks like it currently draws from your original default choice. I'll pass this feedback on to our eCommerce team.
Finally, one thing I wanted to cover just in case it helps, is that you can change the "template"/layout of the "Shop All" page between a Retail and Restaurant display. From the Site Editor go to Shop All > Switch template > choose a new one.
Thanks Seamus
Being able to choose between a retail and a restaurant template is not much of a choice! 🤔....😉
My main problem at the moment with the retail template is that I sell a product that you can buy it by itself or you can add accessories to it when purchasing.
I need my customer to be able to buy the accessories in the same page as the product and the only way of doing that with this template is by listing the accessories as "Modifiers".
That works if the customer is only buying one item but as soon as the customer buys two or more items of the same product he will only get one accessory from the "modifiers" instead of being able to choose the quantity, or the accessories to be the same quantity as the product quantity chosen.
So even if you say that the template is fully modifiable, I can't:
Add quality option, to the "modifiers"
Add an image to each of the "modifiers"
etc....
Thank you for sharing a bit more about how you're using modifiers on your items, @PeterPC. What you're referring to relates more to how the items and modifiers are set up, rather than the website layout itself. It would be great if you could share a link to your site so we can share some more detailed feedback with our eComm team. You could also list the accessories as separate items, and hyperlink them in your item description as a workaround. Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Not keen on hyperlinking as it would make experience much more confusing.
I think I see what you mean now, @PeterPC. So, for instance, if I wanted to purchase two Fumoto F104N OilValves (18mm-1.5), you'd also need the ability to two of the corresponding accessories e.g the SH-10: Hose Socket. Let me know if this is sounds right!
Thanks for clarifying, @PeterPC - this helps us pass on the most detailed feedback to our eCom team regarding this feature. A workaround you can consider in the meantime would be to also create items for the different accessories that can be added on, so they can be purchased separately.
Hi Arie
Exactly what I need!
Would also be good to have an image or more of the accessory.
Thanks
Peter
