Square Online, how to apply category discounts? for example buy 6 get 1 free?

I have a category containing menu items that I'd like to discount.  Every 6 menu items a customer buys from this category, they get 1 free item from that category.  Is it possible to set that up for Square Online?

Hi @happy8.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but at this time category discounts can not be auto-applied to our online stores.  See screen shot below from the Add Discount screen.

Thank you.  Instead of category discounts, is it possible to still offer buy 6 get 7th free on individual item basis?  So every 7 of the same items (that I specify) they add to the cart, 1 is free (buy 6 and 7th is free. if they buy 12 then 13th and 14th items are free)

Yes.  As long as you specify the items that apply to the “buy 6 get 1” automatic discount, then specify that the discount should be automatically applied online, it would work. The steps would be:

  1. Create Discount
  2. Turn on Automatic discount rules
  3. Select Quantity
  4. Enter the quantity that triggers the automatic discount, as well as all items it applies to.
  5. Click Add discount rule
  6. Select exact “Buy one, get one”
  7. Enter the number of additional items that will be free, as well as all items it applies to
  8. Don’t forget to go to the next section and enable the discount for Square Online Sites.

To be sure it is working as you expect, I would first try it out on your POS.  Then, when you are sure it works, go back and enable it for online.

Feel free to come back if you run into any issues or have further questions.
