Restaurants - Online Ordering - No option to prevent orders when restaurant is closede

I commonly have a issues customers place orders online on days that we are closed. They don't see the message that tells them that their order will be ready on the next business day. Square doesn't have a setting to prevent online ordering on days you are closed or simply an "hours of operation" schedule for online ordering. This leaves a bad taste in these customers mouths even though they overlooked the message...it still does and we need to do what we can to prevent this.

I've worked for a major restaurant chain developing online order systems in the past with different POS systems and this issue was also common.

Anyone out there in need of a solution for this? Anyone have a work-around?

How do we get Square to make a simple change to address this?

Thanks people:) Please chime in and hopefully we can get this fixed.

Hello, @Complainer

I believe what you're looking for is disabling online orders. At this time there is no function to do this automatically based on working hours. However, our developer team has implemented an easy way to pause (disable) Online Orders from Square Point of Sale.

To pause incoming Square Online orders from your Point of Sale (version 5.93 or later):

  1. From the navigation bar, tap Orders. If you don’t see Orders, tap More and select Orders.
  2. Tap the clock icon on the Order Manager screen to view your Order Timing settings.
  3. In the Pause Orders section, select Pause for pickup or delivery orders. Tap Save.
  4. Choose when you want to resume online orders and tap Save.

You can see the remaining pause time and resume online orders instantly from the Orders tab.

I hope this information is helpful!
