How can I temporarily disable online ordering for my Square Online site?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: How do I temporarily turn off my store and all items to prevent customers ordering while on holiday.

I have a number of online store items that customers order and have either pickup or home delivery. How do switch all ordering off for a couple of weeks while I take a break but still have my website up? I want people to continue viewing the products, just not able to purchase until I return. I can post a popup to let them know I am cannot prepare orders until I am back.

To temporarily disable online ordering on your Square Online site while keeping your products visible, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your online Square Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Sales Channels > Online > Shared Settings > Checkout.
  3. Toggle off the option: Accept Online Orders.

With online ordering turned off, your items will remain visible on your site, but customers won't be able to make purchases.

This used to work for me. Now for some reason while I have ordering off, orders continue to go through

Can you be more specific?  If the 'don't sell' switch is flipped and you save, what other settings need to be checked or actions need to be done?   

 

Is there an extra step needed like, re-publishing the web site after flipping the switch? Is there another global setting (like item visibility but broader) on the main Square side that needs to also be switched?  I tried refreshing the browser and clearing the cookies.   

 

Seems like the online app has a hard enough time synching with the mother ship in general.  Never had this much trouble in Shopify...
