Customise the text for SMS order information?

As far as I can tell I don't believe this is possible currently but it is something that would be incredibly helpful to do, in the same way customising order confirmation emails allows us to add important information.

 

I find a lot of my customers ignore or don't receive their order confirmation emails (eg goes to spam) so it would be really helpful to have some key info included in the text messages sent when they schedule a pickup or delivery order online. 

 

Additionally, a way to send an SMS "on demand" to a customer (that is late for example) within the square system would be great and save having to manually look up contact details, automating the process.

 

Extra points If it could be done in a way that meant it was sent from our business number so customers could reply to it or more simply reply and we could receive the message within Square, all linked to their order for easy referencing. This would be something I'd use a lot and happy to pay more for if implemented well. I could see this being a great boost for the customer support side of things too.

Thanks for the suggestion and use cases you've provided here, I can see how these sorts of features and a custom SMS system would be handy!

 

There's probably a couple of blockers in terms of Square releasing these features in the near future - a key one is that once SMS messages become editable they become subject to Australian SMS marketing laws, which is something we've yet to dip our toes into as a wider company. The second is that it would be a system that required significant time and development resources to integrate into our product (development, product planning, legal, compliance etc), and adding customisable and on demand SMS features is something that would need to make sense as a business priority within the wider Square ecosystem vs what we've already scoped on the product development roadmap. 

 

That's not to say it won't even happen! However I'd say it'd be more of a long term possibility than a short term one. In any case I do think these features would be useful for Square businesses, I've moved your post to our Feature Requests board for future tracking.

 

In the meantime if these sorts of features would be really valuable to your business it might be worth exploring other options - there are a few dedicated business SMS platforms available in Australia, and while I can't recommend anything in particular, there's a platform called Notify Customers that integrates with Square - it might be worth looking into!
