Add merge fields to import customer information into emails

Hi! We like to address our customers by their first name in each email. When using our other services, we always have the ability to insert a merge field into the email template (Usually something like #firstname) that will autopopulate that information into each customer's email. For example, in the template it would be "Hi #Firstname, ...." which would convert to "Hi Kathy, ..." when sent to a customer named Kathy. Other fields we often use are email, phone #, mailing address, etcetera.
