I'm a little confused.
In a 2024 email square mentioned they would be lowering the cost of gift cards and introduce a new fee to load gift cards.
It's now 2025 and I'm interested in getting custom gift cards, however, when I see their order page, it says "From 50 cents per card." Reading that I assume the cards would cost 50 cents per for the smallest quantity of 75 gift cards and decrease from there for largest quantities.
However the pricing is still the same as it was before the 2024 change. I recall the same pricing structure when I checked long ago and opted not to get them. Selecting the smallest tier is $93 equating to $1.24 per card. Which means they don't go from $0.50 per card. So what gives? Did they forget to edit the pricing to match what the change they intended to make back in 2024 OR am I reading it wrong? (FYI the only package where it starts gift cards at 0.50 is the 6000 cards/$3000 one)
Hi @Triflingdork, we appreciate your post. I went ahead and reached out to our gift cards team about this. They let me know that the wording for our gift card marketing is pretty standard across all industries. "From X" indicates the lowest price available and the assumption is pricing increases from there. It would mean the same as "Starting at X." They also stated that the current prices are discounted vs. the old prices from March 2024.
We appreciate your concern and have escalated this over to the corresponding team, so they are aware of your feedback as well.
Thank you for looking into this too, @Donnie-M!
@Triflingdork ahhh, the classic "Get it as low as .99c" or from 19.99----- are not the same as "From .99c" This is a classic marketing tactic that showcases how low you can get them from, but no one wants to order 10k cards. The price is cheaper now than it used to be a few years ago (2019 to be exact). I don't think what they have said is untrue by any means.
Except it doesn’t showcase how low you can get them from. That would be 0.36 cents if you buy 15k gift cards. And they can omit the 15k and add it to the fine print.
but the current graphic doesn’t match what’s offered.
this shouldn’t be a gacha business tactic or deceitful pricing aha! moment. It should clearly state pricing details and not rug pull you afterwards.
@Triflingdork I think I see what you are saying. I took another look at it, because I assumed that is was a quantity offer but not smallest order possible after I read your reply. I have to step back and say I agree. It works for the starter gift cards, but it doesn't for the other 2. I will forward this on and hopefully square can give it a look and take any action they deem appropriate.
The only thing I could anticipate is..it says from .50c but you can actually get it for .36c so its an even better deal than advertised.

The lowest price available is not 0.50 cents though. The lowest price available is 0.36 cents.
Thus what you're saying is factually incorrect.
