Archive service and keep recurring invoice payment option

Is it possible to archive a specific service because it will no longer be offered, but keep it as a recurring invoice for payment for some customers as a legacy service?

It's not possible to archive a service, and still use it with a current invoice. You would need to unarchive the service first. 

Is there a reason why you want to archive the service?
